About Us

MovES Ltd Background

MovES~Movement Education Services was established in 1992 and effectively represented a formal amalgamation of the professional pathways of two healthcare professionals (Lesley Crozier and Sheila Cozens) who had been working and dialoguing together for some time regarding causation, prevention and management of musculoskeletal disorder and injuries.

Lesley and Sheila are the current primary co-developers of the Neuromuscular Approach to Human Movement (NMAHM)®.

The intended purposes of establishing MovES included promotion of the Neuromuscular Approach to Human Movement (NMAHM)®; development and provision of courses for healthcare professionals, care services and within industry; and gathering evidence and research related to the Approach.

MovES Ltd is probably best known outside of NMAHM® student and practitioner circles within the context of manual handling (Efficient Movement, or Efficient Handling & Moving), and for various credit-rated course processes, including the current version ‘The Neuromuscular Approach to Human Movement®: A Course for Movement Facilitators' (30 credit points, Level 3).

However the NMAHM® extends across all areas of movement practice, and therefore holds the potential to create a seamless system which may validly be applied in any/all stages of the spectrum that includes preventive care (primary, secondary and tertiary), functional movement education and re-education, therapy, rehabilitation and management.

Amongst the primary aims of MovES Ltd is enabling people to explore and make truly informed choices as to whether and how to optimise their movement potential - and from a combined prevention/protection, health maintenance, or health improvement perspective.

Whether working on a one-to-one basis, or within a course of study, an integrated package of personal exploration and development offers opportunities to each person for (progressively):

  • optimising his/her own movement potential; and as necessary,

  • assisting and creating strategies for dealing with

    •  prevention of health problems,

    •  dysfunction in both working and everyday life,

    •  care and management of signs and symptoms such as pain and discomfort, etc

Who are MovES Ltd?

People's Choice

MovES Ltd recognises most people have degrees of choice regarding their life, their health etc.

Some follow a life style which risks and hastens physical, mental and emotional decline - a state they perhaps feel helpless to improve because they believe:

  • there is nothing that could be done to help.

  • negative health effects that may be imposed e.g. through undertaking work, or chosen as part of leisure activities cannot be altered.

  • they have taken appropriate action (whether through self-guidance, or pressured to by others) – without benefit, or with ill effect.

And so the direction of change, associated de-motivation etc continues.

Others choose to be pro-active regarding their health and well being : to find out what possibilities exist, and the potential consequences of engaging those possibilities e.g. undertaking exercise and/ or other physical activities etc.

With regard to movement, exercise, etc MovES Ltd personnel have often found that people (members of the general public, patients, clients, service-users, professional practitioners etc), are generally not fully informed with regard to the range of options which could be offered, the potential effects (direct and indirect) of undertaking activities whether directed/supervised (or not) – or the range of options available to them should negative effects occur.

Many people appear to develop problems as a result of their work, their sport, their hobby etc. At times in professional practice (clinical and training/education) they sometimes are asked if they could turn back the clock, would they have followed the same path of activity?

In MovES Ltd's experience most people normally say ‘yes' – but some re-work the question themselves. And come up with a slightly different response: they probably would have done the same – but if they could have also been taught how to protect themselves, prevent or lessen the potential for ill effects – that would have been preferable than where and how they find themselves in their life, and the ongoing consequences they (and sometimes others around them) have to face because of signs, symptoms, other limitations in ability.

If people choose to move towards either maintaining health and well-being, or to explore ways to improve their health; their health and safety; their health, safety and well-being through movement, exercise etc - MovES Ltd has something of value to offer. This may include information, alternative methods, or modifications that could be applied to their movement activities, and/or intervention to re-dress non-beneficial adaptations built up within current or previous activities etc, etc.
