Frequently Asked Questions
Is the NMAHM® different to any other movement systems?
What does the NMAHM® involve?
Has there been any research into the NMAHM®?
What is the MovES Ltd/NMAHM® perspective upon the wisdom of trying to create change in movement patterns in a, say, 2-day manual handling input? Is there a danger in attempting to make change from people's habitual movement style to that advocated by the NMAHM®?
Most manual handling systems I have come across generally seem to teach techniques. You say that the NMAHM® is principle-based, and as such learning can be transferred across different situations. Yet wasn't there a legal case to do with a manual handling incident which spoke against the idea of teaching for transfer?
In talking to others, and checking the Internet it seems that most organisations involved in manual handling indicate that I could do a 4- or 5-day course, and become a trainer despite having no particular knowledge etc of manual handling before attending the course. In MovES Ltd courses it seems to take much longer to get to that stage and there are also defined pre-course requirements. Why is this?
Can the NMAHM® be taught in a short time period?
I have heard that the NMAHM® is difficult both practically and in understanding the rationale and theory. Is this actually true?
The NMAHM® claims to have at least one root of origin in Human Kinetics. The practices seem different to what I have previously learned in/ as Kinetics: why is this?
I have been told that the NMAHM® advocates dangerous practices, like overstretching, and holding on to things with an open hand. Is this true?
There now seems to be some degree of convergence between the NMAHM® and other systems. Is it that the NMAHM® is more widely recognised, or validated now?
I already have a back (neck/ shoulder/ wrist/ knee/ ankle/ foot) problem. Would that influence my ability to join into a MovES Ltd course programme?
Who ultimately decides on the input of any NMAHM® course content? My specific question is really about who is able to decide what elements go into NMAHM® courses, and what not?
