MANAS MovES Ltd Academy of Neuromuscular Approach Studies
Supporting health and well-being through Efficient Movement
Overview (Please also read: The NMAHM®: Current situation & considerations for the future)
From previous consultation with NMA/NMAHM® students and practitioners it is felt that an NMAHM® Academy could and should be developed.
Logistical reasons – costs, time, energy, data protection, records storage, avoidance of potential confusion, duplication of effort etc appear to validate that the Academy be firstly developed within MovES Ltd's structure and operation.
A free trial period of MANAS membership and a Forum service has previously been available to assess uptake, activity etc.
Role of MANAS MANAS has been established for public and professional benefit to support:
- the ongoing review and, as necessary, development of the NMAHM®; and
- the promotion and dissemination of the NMAHM® in self-care and care of others by suitably qualified practitioners across the various fields of professional movement practice.
Values of MANAS
MovES~Movement Education Services Ltd, and MANAS are committed to providing opportunities for supporting health, well-being and associated quality of life through Efficient Movement, and movement education and re-education as necessary.
The Academy is founded upon key person-centred values – honesty and integrity – and the application of these values within the context of:
- upholding fundamental aspects of professionalism in relation to all aspects of NMAHM® practice;
- meeting the primary requirement of medical, paramedical and related healthcare practice of doing no harm (primum non nocere).
Aims of MANAS
- to provide a range of educational opportunities for those who wish to learn and apply the NMAHM® whether for personal self-care, or for the professional care of others;
- to support people in their personal and professional development, and towards optimising their personal/ professional potential via the provision of a range of educational processes;
- to continue to review, audit and research the NMAHM® in order to enhance personal and professional understanding and maintain or develop efficient strategies regarding prevention and care of neuromusculoskeletal and associated disorders.
- to safeguard those who wish to learn and apply the NMAHM® and any others who may be influenced by their activity (including eg non-practitioners, patients, clients, formal and informal carers, members of the public)
- to develop a Register of members in order to assist other professions, potential service commissioners etc to verify claimed NMAHM® knowledge/ skills/ abilities etc with regard to meeting service provision requirements to create a professional and multidisciplinary network of suitably qualified persons to assist in the meeting of MANAS aims etc.
Purposes of MANAS
The purposes are summarised in the defined goals of the Academy: these have been set in different time-frames.
The short-term goal of the Academy is:
- to develop a body of people who are personally and professionally committed to the NMAHM®, their ongoing development of expertise in this area of practice, and to audit, research and development of the NMAHM®.
The intermediate goal of the Academy is:
- to develop a defined centre of excellence, with the core of practice/ expertise being based upon the NMAHM®.
The long-term goal of the Academy is:
- to become a fully autonomous, self-regulating, professionally recognised body with regard to providing and auditing the necessary phases of development of professional movement practitioners specialising in NMAHM®.
Proposed Methods
It is intended that these aims eventually shall be met by:
- creating a tiered Register of membership: application to, and maintenance of membership will be informed by meeting Standards of NMAHM® Practice and Continuing Professional Development requirements to demonstrate either maintenance of requisite knowledge and skills levels associated with the defined membership level, or ongoing development; and
- supporting NMAHM® practice and practitioner development by:
| |
promoting standardisation of NMAHM® practice;
reviewing and as necessary further developing practices;
enabling development of evidence by approved persons (anecdotal; audit; approved research)
|
|
- instituting a defined licensing system – for those who wish or require to utilise materials drawn from the Intellectual Property, the NMAHM®, and/ or teach the NMAHM®.
The initial step in this process is the development of a membership base of those who wish to indicate that they are actively engaged in NMA/NMAHM® practice, and prepared to support and actively contribute to the further development of the NMAHM® in professional practice for the benefit of all.
